Sample Three-Day Iron Range Motorcoach Itinerary
History, Heritage & Local Flavor in Northern Minnesota
Minnesota’s Iron Range offers an exceptional blend of cultural heritage, iconic landmarks, and warm hospitality—making it a natural fit for motorcoach tours. This three-day itinerary highlights the best of Hibbing, Chisholm, Mountain Iron, and Embarrass, pairing guided experiences with memorable dining and comfortable lodging.

Day One: Hibbing Icons & Iron Range Legends
Your Iron Range adventure begins in Hibbing with a knowledgeable step-on guide who brings the region’s stories to life. Tour the stunning Hibbing High School, often called the “Castle on the Hill,” renowned for its architecture and legendary auditorium. Continue to the breathtaking Hull Rust Mahoning Mine View, where guests can take in the immense scale of one of the world’s largest open-pit iron ore mines.
History lovers will enjoy stops at the Greyhound Bus Museum and Bob Dylan’s Childhood Home, followed by a visit to a Minnesota Historical Society museum to deepen understanding of the region’s past. A group lunch at Sammy’s Pizza delivers a classic Iron Range favorite, while dinner at BoomTown Brewery & Woodfire Pizza offers a relaxed evening atmosphere. The day concludes with a welcome reception and overnight at Comfort Inn & Suites of Mountain Iron, a motorcoach-friendly home base for the tour.

Day Two: Mining History & Wildlife Encounters
Day two centers on Chisholm’s premier attraction, the Minnesota Discovery Center. Groups enjoy a guided museum tour followed by a scenic trolley ride across the 660-acre property, offering panoramic views and compelling mining stories. A catered lunch on site keeps the day moving smoothly.
In the afternoon, continue to the Minnesota Museum of Mining for hands-on exhibits, then travel to the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary, where guests can observe black bears in a natural setting—an unforgettable Northwoods experience. Dinner at Valentini’s Supper Club in Chisholm provides classic Italian-American comfort before returning to Comfort Inn & Suites of Mountain Iron for the night.
Day Three: Finnish Roots & Sweet Traditions
The final day explores Iron Range cultural heritage in Embarrass, beginning with a guided tour of the historic Seitaniemi Housebarn, a beautifully preserved example of Finnish homesteading. Nearby, the Kaleva Hall tour offers insight into immigrant traditions, community life, and enduring cultural pride.
End the journey on a sweet note with a candy-making demonstration at Canelake’s Candy, followed by lunch and shopping at Kunnari’s Farm Market, a beloved regional stop for fresh foods and local gifts.
