Make Music on The Range
If you like nothing better than tapping your toe to some acoustic music under the stars, enjoying an operetta like Leonard Bernstein’s Candide, or rocking out at a local pub, the Iron Range is for you! There’s music practically every night of the week around here because talented musicians abound. So join us as we make music on the Range!
Music in the Parks
That’s right, there’s music in many Iron Range parks this summer. Hibbing’s Bennett Park, Chisholm’s Pocket Park, Virginia’s Olcott Park and Biwabik’s Carl Shuster Park are the site of local musicians on the state, lawn chairs and blankets on the grass, and food trucks on the periphery.
A Classical Kind of Sound
Northern Minnesota is fortunate to be home to a classical music extravaganza, the Northern Lights Music Festival. Talented musicians and students from around the globe perform in venues across the region. Small group performances, lectures and competitions culminate in a professional opera production. Taking place every July, this very special festival is unlike anything else in the state.
Bands, Bars and Beer
Many local restaurants host musicians but some of our favorite and most consistent are the Back of the Shack Fridays in Virginia and Acoustic Dinners at Jim’s Sports Club. Check out the Ore House in Gilbert for local bands as well.
Strike Up the Bands This Summer
The Hibbing and Virginia City Bands perform throughout the summer at various venues including Bennett Park in Hibbing, Olcott Park in Virginia, the Hibbing City Hall lawn and Minnesota Discovery Center to name a few. Find their schedules here and enjoy the talents of musicians of all ages.
Music on The Trail
Hike around Silver Lake in Virginia on a paved trail and enjoy local music, lakeside, before or after your stroll. Bring the whole family and a picnic to boot and take in summer fun with this fun activity.
An Uplifting Kind of Sound
For many years, churches in the Hibbing area have hosted a midday Wednesday event in the summer called Organs in Revue. Each Wednesday a different local organist is featured in a short concert followed by an inexpensive but surely delicious luncheon. Great for groups!
Music and a Meal
Bands, Brews and BBQ at Minnesota Discovery Center brings outdoor dining and live music together in one of the many outdoor spaces on the campus. Ice cream is always available and rotating menu items along with great local music make this a family favorite Thursday evening on the Range.
If you love music, the Iron Range is the place to be, and as you can see, we embrace and celebrate not only a variety of musical genres, we also make use of unique and welcoming venues across the region. See you at a concert soon!
