Eli Wirtanen Farm

Visit the humble farm of logger and farmer Eli Wirtanen, who homesteaded this property near Makinen, MN in 1904. A Finnish immigrant, he lived off the land and built a home, guest house, saunas (more than one over the years), a barn and other outbuildings. Tour this peaceful site and imagine living here in the northwoods more than 100 years ago. Interpretive signs guide your way. No admission but donations are welcome. On the second Saturday in September, Friends of the Eli Wirtanen Farm host a Fall Farm Fest with artisan crafts, food, music and farm animals.
