Hub-and-Spoke Tour on the Iron Range

If having a great “home base” for an exciting hub and spoke tour of northeastern Minnesota’s Iron Range sounds fun, then you’re in the right place! Let our team help you plan a hub and spoke tour of the Iron Range that incoroporates wildlife, history, hospitality and all kinds of optional adventures.

Meet the Iron Range

Northeastern Minnesota is known as the Arrowhead Region of the state, because it’s broad at one and and pointy at the other. In the middle of this lies the Iron Range. Here, communities like HIbbing, Virginia, Eveleth and Biwabik, grew up in the late 1800s around logging, mining and railroads. Today, outdoor recreation is the prevalent vibe, with incredible amenities like the Mesabi Trail, Iron Range Off Highway Vehicle Recreation Area and Giants Ridge. But active mining and logging are also still happening, with a wealth of history to be found at attractions like Minnesota Discovery Center and more.

Why the Range is the Perfect Base for a Hub and Spoke Adventure

Situated in the middle of the Arrowhead, the Range is home to communities that offer guided tours of fascinating sites like Hull Rust Mahoning Mine View and the Castle in the Woods, in Hibbing, or Kaleva Hall and the Setiniemi Housebard in Virginia and Embarrass. Plus, the Vince Shute Bear Sanctuary and a trolley ride at Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm are great fun and popular with groups of all ages.

From these points, it’s a great day trip to either Grand Rapids in the west or Ely to the north and east. In Grand Rapids, visit the Minnesota Historical Society site, the Forest History Center, and Judy Garland’s childhood home. In Ely, stop at the Dororthy Molter Museum and the International Wolf Center. Along the way, explore Soudan Underground Mine!

Where to Rest Your Head

The Comfort Inn and Suites in Mountain Iron is a group-friendly hotel with plenty of bus parking, a large great room for group gatherings and a welcome reception, and a free hot breakfast. Plus, it has easy access to all points of interest across the region. Your bus driver even receives a complimentary room.

For guests wishing for a more lux experience, The Lodge at Giants Ridge is an all suites property at the foot of the Giants Ridge ski slopes and next to one of their acclaimed golf courses, The Legend.

There’s More Where That Came From!

Let’s time your Iron Range hub and spoke tour to coincide with fun events like Octoberfest at Giants Ridge, with beer tastings, music, food pairings and chairlift rides. Or take in outdoor evening band performances in the summer with Music in the Park events in Hibbing, Virginia, Chisholm and Biwabik. There are festivals to discover, including Land of the Loon Ethnic Arts Festival in June, or Weihnachtsfest in December.

Area attractions offer group rates and accessibility accommodations.

Ask about our complimentary welcome reception, free room and admission for your driver, and step-on guides. We’re happy to help make your group adventure memorable. Call 218-749-8161 for more information.
