Fun Family Activities on the Iron Range

For fun family activities on the Iron Range, consider our top options:

When Was The Last Time You….

Went out on the Thomas Rukavina Memorial Bridge in Virginia and dropped rocks over the side? It’s only a 2.1-mile walk on the paved Mesabi Trail from the Finntown Overlook at the east end of Third St North. Or, take a shorter route of about 1.5 miles round trip from the end of Chesnut Street. Here’s a map to lead the way!

Or….

Perused the delicious chocolates and candies at Canelake’s Candies? Have you shopped their wide selection of Minnetonka footwear, or their many Minnesota-themed gifts and collectibles? A stop here is an excursion unto itself!

Or…

Checked out the new Bijou Build at Minnesota Discovery Center? If it’s raining, head inside to their indoor play area. Visit the exhibits and pop into the gift store – you never know what great new items they’ll have for you!

Or Even…

Took a ride to Skibo Vista and looked out over the Superior National Forest near Hoyt Lakes? Located on the Superior National Forest Scenic Byway, this overlook is home to a former fire tower and has a great view. Keep going east on the Byway for more interesting spots we bet you’ve never explored!

Still Looking for More Places to Explore?

We recommend the Carey Lake hiking trails in Hibbing or the Minnesota Museum of Mining in Chisholm (open for MEA weekend!). Stop in to the US Hockey Hall of Fame Museum in Eveleth or Bruce Mine Headframe in Chisholm. There are plenty of low- or no-cost things to do that your kids and/or parents will love. Have fun exploring!
