Minnesota Discovery Center

Minnesota’s museum of the Iron Range explores the land, the people and the mines of the region through illuminating indoor and outdoor exhibits and events. Ride the vintage trolley to a mining ghost town, and play mini-golf on the mining-themed course. Admission is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for ages 3-17 and free to children 2 and under. Trolley tickets are $4 per person. Mini-golf is $4 per round. Members receive discounted rates. Admission is free every Thursday, 3-9 p.m.

Trolley Schedule

Minnesota Discovery Center overlooks the reclaimed Glen and Godfrey mines, offering great views deep into the mine lakes. The trolley tracks skirt these mine pits, and lead to a former mining community, or “location,” with restored buildings, including a homestead, boarding house and bunk house. Trolley rides are $4 per person ($3.50 for members) in addition to admission.

The trolley schedule, through Labor Day (limited number of riders per run)

  • Tuesday & Wednesday 11 a.m. 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Thursday, Friday & Saturday 11 a.m. 1 p.m., 3  p.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Friday, 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Sunday, 1 & 3  p.m.

The trolley schedule, September 5-October 31 (weather permitting) is:

Summer Fun

This summer at Minnesota Discovery Center, take advantage of all kinds of new fun, including the Trails and Tales Naturalist Program. At the admissions desk, ask to sign out a backpack and an age-specific naturalist booklet. Find activities, tools and supplies to help kids and families discover interesting and unique information about northern Minnesota. When you’re done, hand in the backpack, and keep the booklet!
