Golf and Dine: The Best Eats on the Iron Range for Golfers
You were up early to hit the course and by now it’s well after noon. It’s time for some chow – and we have some ideas to fill you up when you golf and dine. No matter where you golf from Hibbing to Hoyt Lakes, there are plenty of places to chose from, but here are a few of the best eats on the Iron Range for golfers.
Friendly Bar, Great Burgers
Whether you’re at the Hibbing muni or the Mesabi Country Club, Palmers Tavern is a great place to stop for a cold beverage and awesome burgers. The Baroona Burger has fried onions, Swiss and cheddar on bread, and the Grandpa Tony is the classic mushroom burger on a toasted buttered bun. After you’ve filled up, drive a little further north on Third Avenue and check out Hull Rust Mine View, the best place to view active iron mining in the country.
Clubhouse Restaurant Shines with Homemade Fare
The Copper Nickel at the Virginia Municipal Course is the second restaurant by this name. The original is in Aurora and has found so much success there that they took over the course clubhouse restaurant. The Copper Nickel serves up housemade pasta, soup, salad, burgers and sandwiches, and offers a Friday fish fry of walleye, cod and haddock.
Eveleth Restaurant Serves Iron Range-made Beer
Boomtown Restaurant in Eveleth serves it’s own beer, made Boomtown Brewery in Hibbing. Sample a variety of flavors, including a new Cerveza, and seasonal brews. Menu items include daily specials, great salads (Brewhouse Steak is a fav), tacos, grilled meat and more. It’s just north of the Eveleth Municipal Golf Course on Hwy 53.
Two Courses, Multiple Dining Options
The Legend and The Quarry courses at Giants Ridge are renown for their challenging play in a beautiful northwoods setting. Did you also know they are in close proximity to great dining experiences as well? The Burnt Onion Kitchen and Brews is the Chalet restaurant at Giants Ridge and offers a variety of modern fare and drink selection. At The Lodge, Neighbor’s BBQ brings the sweet, savory, and spicy flavors of barbeque to the table.
Rudy’s Goes Great with the Hoyt Lakes Muni
All your lunchtime favorites are here at Rudy’s in Aurora, just up the road from the Hoyt Lakes Municipal Golf Course. A local favorite for 20 years, Rudy’s works hard to provide great food in downtown Aurora. Try the pulled pork nachos or the Slaw Burger, perfect for refueling. The muni is close to the Legend and the Quarry at Giants Ridge, plus The Wilderness at Fortune Bay.
