Find All Kinds of Fun on The Range in February
February might be the shortest month by days, but for many it’s one of the longest. Sometimes dreary, sometimes snowy, sometimes slushy and always cold, it can feel long! Fortunately, creative and fun-loving Iron Rangers have created a whole host of events to make February tolerable, if not fantastic!
If you’re looking for Valentine’s activities, that’s another blog post. Here, we’ll give you a taste of the biggest, most unique and some unexpected events happening in February on the Range. Enjoy!
A Sliding Hill to Beat All Sliding Hills
On the Range, a lot of us say sliding instead of sledding. However you say it, it’s fun for everyone and there’s no bigger hill or better time do to it than Laskiainen in Palo. The photo above doesn’t do it justice. You have to stop by the Loon Lake Community Center for this event and enjoy crafts, dogsled and sleigh rides, food, music and some slippery fun. They’ve been doing it for 86 years – they put on a great day!
Get Vintage in Chisholm and Buhl
Haul out those old snow machines and join the Vintage Sled Ride for ALS. They Hydeaway in Buhl and Tom and Jerry’s in Chisholm are teaming up to host this fun lil cruise for a cause.
Hang Out with Some Champions!
If a little spectating sounds fun to you, Curl Mesabi in Eveleth is welcoming teams to the Senior Men’s National Curling Championships. Aren’t a curler? It’s time you learn! Curl Mesabi hosts burger nights with curling lessons for beginners. You’ll find a friendly crew and a great meal waiting.
Symphony on the Range? You Betcha!
Mesabi Symphony Orchestra kicks off the 2024 season with Music Is Exhilarating! in the historic Hibbing High School auditorium. If other kinds of music get you grooving, there’s a great line up at The Ore House in Gilbert.
Polar Bear Days is Bursting with Events
For an event that doesn’t really require snow, bring your ATV to Chisholm for their annual Polar Bear Days Ride. Hosted by Northern Traxx ATV Club, it’s fun day on the trails that includes lunch. Visit the Chisholm Area Chamber of Commerce website for more Polar Bear Days events, including Comedy Night at Jim’s, Sled the City and the Kiwanis Kid’s Ice Fishing Contest.
If you’re looking for more winter riding, check out these trails around the state. Be sure to visit the Minnesota DNR website for any trail closures.
