Snowmobiling on the Iron Range

If you prefer your winter with a little more horsepower, the Iron Range region offers the most scenic and best-groomed snowmobile trails in the Midwest. We offer more than 2,000 miles of excellent, groomed and well-signed snowmobile trails.

Our extensive northern Minnesota trail system winds across a variety of terrain and breathtaking scenery. With more than 500 lakes and rivers in the Iron Range region, these frozen waterways provide exceptionally scenic northern Minnesota snowmobile riding opportunities.

Our northern Minnesota snowmobile trails have direct connections to the state-managed Taconite Trail that stretches 170 miles between Ely and Grand Rapids and direct spur connections to the state-managed Tomahawk Trail that travels 86 miles to Lake Superior's North Shore. The Iron Range is also a gateway to the state-managed Arrowhead Trail that travels all the way to International Falls bordering Canada.

Combine our pristine forests and abundant wildlife with an average snowfall of over 100 inches, the Iron Range is truly a snowmobiler's paradise. Due to the extensive amount of tree cover on our trails, we are able to open trails earlier and keep them open longer than most areas in Minnesota.

The Iron Range snowmobile trails allow you to ride for hours in every direction. Plus, our trails have convenient, direct access to lodging, gas, dining, and entertainment.

Many of the northern Minnesota lodging properties also offer snowmobile vacation packages, complete with accommodations for both large and small groups, spacious rooms, suites with fireplaces and jacuzzis, and even chalet cabins complete with full kitchens, fireplaces, laundry facilities, saunas and barbeque grills.

All major manufacturers have factory-authorized stores within 30 miles of anywhere you stay on the Iron Range, in case you need parts or service.
