This class will be focused on some of the basics of Winter Camping and will include day and overnight trip information and hands on demonstrations. Three types of shelter will be set up for viewing including hot and cold tents and a quinzee hut. Two winter camping trips in the BWCA will be scheduled and facilitated through Mesabi Outdoor Adventures as follow up experiences from this class. Talking points will include basic safety precautions, Leave No Trace Ethics, where to go, types of gear and how they are used, weather, food and water, moisture and heat management, sleep and shelter systems, gear transport systems, the unique improvisational aspect of winter camping, and anything else that becomes a topic of discussion.
