Pete Pellinen of Virginia and Peter Kess of Ely will perform a program of vocal music titled “Songs of Love and Life” in Virginia on Mar 10 at 2 PM at the Lyric Annex, 516 Chestnut St. There will be a freewill offering, with coffee and to follow the performance.
Pete and Peter are referring to this as a ‘senior’ recital now that they both have enough gray in their beards to qualify as seniors. They would like to invite their friends and fellow music enthusiasts to join them for an informal afternoon of sharing live music. The performance will include Peter Kess singing mostly art songs by Mozart, Schubert, Sibelius and others, and with Pete Pellinen singing a Gerald Finzie song cycle , “ A Young Man’s Exhortation”.
This program is intended to be in the tradition of song recitals held in private salons for the enjoyment of patrons, their friends and small groups of musicians. Many amateurs and budding musicians would perform music in their living rooms for the pure enjoyment of sharing live music written for the voice by the great composers. And the composers were glad of the extra income that the sale of the required sheet music provided them.
Peter and Pete have sung together in several of the Northern Lights Music Festival operas as well in last year’s Mesabi Symphony’s “North of Broadway” concert. They will be joined by Susan Germek of Ely and Margie Miller of Eveleth as accompanists. Susan and Margie will also play piano duo arrangements of Brahms’ Hungarian Dances. Pete and Peter look forward to sharing this music, and your company, for this
afternoon of friendship, collaboration and most of all, enjoyment.
