Cross Country Skiing The Iron Range

Mother Nature’s backyard, complete with the Superior National Forest, hills of the Laurentian Divide and all that Giants Ridge has to offer. All these locations provide a great backdrop for Minnesota cross country skiing. Over 275 kilometers of Minnesota ski trails are found here and present a variety of challenges for skiers of all abilities. Request a map with 12 trails systems in and around the Mesabi Iron Range.

Giants Ridge Trails

If you want to ski at night, Giants Ridge® Ski Resort has 3 kilometers of lit trails for night skiing. Ski Magazine named Giants Ridge® the top ski resort in Minnesota with its over 60 kilometers of high quality and scenic cross country ski trails. This is the largest, most well maintained, and most scenic Minnesota ski trail system in the northland.

Laurentian Divide Trails

These cross county ski trails are conveniently located off Hwy 53 just north of Virginia. If you are looking to get into the wilderness on a more rugged and back country trail the Laurentian is for you. Since these trails are not groomed they offer people a change a pace in their nordic skiing.

Find mile after mile of nordic trails to enjoy across the range. There are cross county ski trails where you wouldn’t expect them to be hiding. Whether the Iron Range is your home or your visiting, don’t miss out on exploring a new trail system this winter!
