Look sharp! Birds & Wildlife Sightings Await
The Mesabi Iron Range is home to all manner of bog and woodland flora and fauna. Explore area hiking trails and the world-renown Sax-Zim Bog to find barred owls, great horned owls, sawhet owls and a variety of birds including the spruce grouse, boreal chickadee and dozens of migratory species. Short trail systems can be found throughout the region and are ideal for morning or afternoon hikes. Animal sightings are most likely in the early morning or in the evening and may include whitetail deer, otter, red fox, black bear, coyote, rabbit, fisher and porcupine. PLEASE NOTE: Sax-Zim bog is not recommended for summer visits. Winter is the best viewing time for birds in the bog.
